The Genesis of My Peace

Peace I leave with you; MY PEACE I GIVE YOU. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. ~John 14:27

In this world so many things disrupt our peace. Wars, politics, family dynamics, our jobs, the economy, etc. Everywhere we look we have countless reasons to be restless, terrified, and on guard. Even our very thoughts can be assailants on our peace; relentlessly reminding us of our failures, our shortcomings and our fears. It is so easy to remain anything but peaceful and yet that is the very gift the Lord Jesus has given us.

However, we often tirelessly search for peace in other places, be it finances, our relationships, our family’s, routines, we think that peace is something that we can extract or even manufacture. We fail to recognize that true peace, lasting peace only comes from the Lord Jesus. But how do we find it? How can we access the peace that Jesus said He left with us? Here at My Peace I Give You Therapy Clinic, we strive to help you find the path to everlasting peace.

The genesis of this practice began at a time in my life where I was desperate for peace and understanding. God called me to leave the world and follow Him, but I scarcely understood what that meant. I had given God my yes, but I still struggled with many things. I often found my analytical mind searching for ways to produce a comfort and peace that felt like grasping smoke or following a shadow.

Then one day the Lord spoke to me and said “Surrender your rest. You are not responsible for your own peace. I will lead you to rest. Stop looking for what you have already been given.” From there, God opened my eyes. I began to understand that anxiety, depression, trauma, heartbreak, anguish, discontentment, all of these can be helped and healed when real and true peace can be found within, the peace already available. The Lord showed me that it was never His desire for us to live broken, ashamed, guilty, or in pain. He desires us to be restored and to live in His peace.

As a therapist I have found that we struggle to be at peace and for our hearts not to be troubled. We struggle because our pasts plague us and we partake in the panic of the world and we have succumbed to the “normal” of being peaceless. We begin to normalize operating in a tired façade of pretending we are “ok”. We volunteer ourselves to carry heavy burdens and fight silent battles. We make futile attempts at peace like, drinking the weekend away. Or we make earnest attempts at peace, like attending a church service, but somehow, we still feel lost, and hurt.

It is important that we come to realize that nothing in this world can become our personal messiah. Real healing comes from sitting with pain, sitting with the raw parts of your soul, and allowing the master healer, Jesus, to restore you. Therapy provides a place where you can sit down with someone and really explore your soul wounds and discover what needs to be mended. Prayer, therapy, and a surrendered life in Christ will help you maneuver through the brokenness of your soul and discover the peace that the Lord Jesus has already left with you.
